The case filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former CEC Kazi Habibul Awal, and five local journalists in Tangail on charges of dummy elections and vote theft has been withdrawn. An unknown 150-200 people were named as accused in the case.
On Wednesday, plaintiff Kamrul Hasan applied to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Bhuiyanpur Upazila Amli Court to withdraw the case. The judge of the court, after hearing the statements of the plaintiff and his lawyer, ordered the case to be registered.
Confirming the matter, Tangail Court Inspector Md. Lutfar Rahman said that the learned judge of the court recorded the statement of the plaintiff in the Rumelia Sirajam case and heard the statements of the plaintiff’s lawyer. Then the court ordered the case to be registered. This made it unnecessary to pursue the case further.
It is learned that the case was filed in that court last Monday. The plaintiff in the case, Kamrul Hasan, is the president of the Aloya Union BNP of the upazila. He faced criticism for naming five local journalists as accused in the case. In view of this, the next day, Tuesday, after various dramas throughout the day, the plaintiff submitted a no-objection letter to the court, seeking the removal of the names of the five journalists from the case.

In this regard, plaintiff’s lawyer Abu Raihan Khan said that the plaintiff has withdrawn the case filed by calling the 12th National Parliament election held on January 7, 2024, a dummy and vote-stealing election. In the case filed on May 19, he filed charges against a total of 193 people related to the election, naming former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the main accused.
The judge took cognizance of the case and ordered the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhuiyanpur Police Station to investigate the plaintiff’s statement and submit a report. At the same time, he set the next hearing of the case for August 13.
In the meantime, the plaintiff submitted a no-objection letter to withdraw the five journalists from the case yesterday. The plaintiff finally withdrew the case today. Plaintiff Kamrul Hasan has requested withdrawal saying that he will not pursue the case.
When asked about the withdrawal of the case, plaintiff Kamrul Hasan told Ajker that Upazila BNP President Golam Mustafa had asked him to withdraw the case. He also said that the decision to withdraw was taken from within the BNP.
Later, when contacted, Bhuiyanpur Upazila BNP President Advocate Golam Mustafa said that he was in Dhaka all day yesterday. He had heard that the case would be withdrawn. However, they would sit down and take a final decision on the matter.

In this regard, District BNP General Secretary Advocate Farhad Iqbal said that he has come to know about the case being filed on charges of organizing dummy elections and vote theft in 2024. No one consulted the District BNP in any way to file such a case. Again, he does not know anything about the withdrawal.
Farhad Iqbal also said that an investigation committee will be formed by the District BNP to find out why the case was filed and why it was withdrawn. After getting the real information from the investigation report, necessary organizational measures will be taken in consultation with the BNP high command.
District BNP President Hasanuzzammil Shaheen said that it was necessary to consult with the district BNP before filing such a case. The district BNP will look into the matter and take necessary action.
The plaintiff mentioned in the case that Sheikh Hasina, on the instructions of India, organized a dummy election on January 7, 2024 in collusion with other defendants. Plaintiff Kamrul Hasan was a voter of the Vara High School center in Aloya Union, Bhuiyanpur. When he went to vote at that center with other voters, Awami League and Chhatra League terrorists attacked them.
The defendants beat him up and threatened to kill him. In the election, Awami League terrorists, with the help of the police and presiding officer, occupied the polling center and forcibly sealed the box with the boat symbol. In this way, by stealing other people’s votes, Awami League nominated candidate Tanvir Hasan Chhota Monir from Tangail-2 (Bhuiyanpur) constituency was elected as MP. This caused great damage to the country and the people.
